Nougat is a deliciously chewy and nutty confection that’s perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth. Whether enjoyed on its own or used in candy bars, this homemade nougat recipe is easy to make and full of delightful flavors.
Ingredients:
2 cups granulated sugar
½ cup honey
½ cup light corn syrup
¼ cup water
2 large egg whites
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 ½ cups toasted almonds or pistachios
¼ teaspoon salt
Edible wafer paper (optional)
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients
Line a baking dish with parchment paper or edible wafer paper.
Toast the nuts if they aren’t already toasted.
Step 2: Make the Syrup
In a saucepan, combine sugar, honey, corn syrup, and water.
Heat over medium heat until the mixture reaches 300°F (150°C) on a candy thermometer.
Step 3: Whip the Egg Whites
While the syrup is heating, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
Once the syrup reaches the right temperature, slowly drizzle it into the egg whites while continuing to beat.
Step 4: Add Flavor and Nuts
Mix in vanilla extract and salt.
Gently fold in the toasted nuts.
Step 5: Set the Nougat
Pour the mixture into the prepared dish and smooth the top.
Let it set for at least 4 hours or overnight.
Step 6: Cut and Serve
Once firm, cut into small squares or bars.
Wrap in parchment paper or store in an airtight container.
Tips for Perfect Nougat:
Use a candy thermometer for accuracy.
Keep the nougat away from humidity to prevent it from becoming too sticky.
