Ingredients:
For the Cupcakes:
1 cup all-purpose flour
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
¼ tsp salt½ cup unsalted butter, softened
¾ cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
½ cup buttermilk
½ cup hot water
For the Chocolate Frosting:
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 ½ cups powdered sugar
¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
2-3 tbsp milk
Instructions:
Step 1: Preheat and Prepare
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a cupcake tray with paper liners.
Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
Step 3: Cream Butter and Sugar
In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Step 4: Combine Ingredients
Alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Finally, add hot water and mix until the batter is smooth.
Step 5: Bake the Cupcakes
Fill each cupcake liner about 2/3 full with batter. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow cupcakes to cool completely before frosting.
Step 6: Prepare the Frosting
In a mixing bowl, beat butter until creamy. Add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing well. Stir in vanilla extract and gradually add milk until the frosting reaches a smooth, spreadable consistency.
Step 7: Decorate and Serve
Once the cupcakes are cool, spread or pipe the chocolate frosting on top. Garnish with chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or a cherry on top for extra flair.
