Ingredients:
- 200g spaghetti
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves (optional for garnish)
- Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions:
Cook the Spaghetti:
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions (usually 8-10 minutes) until al dente.
- Drain the pasta and set aside, reserving about 1/2 cup of pasta water.
Prepare the Sauce:
- In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic and chopped onion, sautéing until softened and fragrant (about 3-4 minutes).
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir. Add oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Let the sauce simmer for about 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. If the sauce thickens too much, add a bit of the reserved pasta water to reach your desired consistency.
Combine:
- Add the cooked spaghetti to the sauce and toss to coat evenly. If needed, add more pasta water to help combine the sauce with the spaghetti.
Serve:
- Serve the spaghetti hot, garnished with fresh basil leaves and grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
