Let’s dive into the recipe for these delicious treats!
Ingredients
For the Cupcakes:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 large eggs, at room temperature
1/2 cup milk, at room temperature
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
For the Buttercream Frosting:
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
3-4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
2-3 tbsp milk or heavy cream
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
A pinch of salt
Food coloring or sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare Your Ingredients
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin pan with cupcake liners.
Ensure that your butter and eggs are at room temperature, which helps create a smooth batter.
Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
Step 3: Cream Butter and Sugar
In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
Step 4: Add the Eggs and Vanilla
Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then add the vanilla extract and continue mixing until smooth.
Step 5: Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the flour mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Step 6: Bake the Cupcakes
Fill each cupcake liner about 2/3 full with the batter. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the cupcakes cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 7: Make the Buttercream Frosting
In a large bowl, beat the softened butter on medium speed until creamy.
Gradually add powdered sugar, about 1 cup at a time, beating well after each addition.
Add vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Adjust the consistency by adding milk or heavy cream, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the frosting is smooth and spreadable.
For a fun touch, you can add food coloring to the frosting or sprinkle decorative sprinkles.
Step 8: Frost the Cupcakes
Once the cupcakes are fully cooled, use a piping bag or a knife to frost each cupcake with buttercream.
Garnish with sprinkles, chocolate chips, or fresh fruit, if desired.
Tips for the Best Cupcakes
Room Temperature Ingredients: Using room temperature butter and eggs ensures a smoother, well-incorporated batter.
Don’t Overfill: Fill each liner only 2/3 full to prevent overflow and ensure an even rise.
Experiment with Flavors: Try adding lemon zest, almond extract, or a hint of cinnamon for a unique twist.
