How to Make Bread Rolls

Step: Prepare the Filling

Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they crackle, add chopped onions and sauté until translucent. Add ginger and green chilies, followed by turmeric, coriander powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well.

Mash the boiled potatoes and add them to the pan. Stir thoroughly until all the spices are evenly combined. Add fresh coriander leaves and let the mixture cool completely.

Step 2: Prepare the Bread

Trim the edges of the bread slices if desired. Dip each bread slice in water for just a second and immediately squeeze out the excess water gently without tearing the bread.

Step 3: Shape the Rolls

Place a spoonful of potato filling in the center of the bread slice. Fold and seal the edges carefully, shaping them into cylindrical or oval rolls.

Step 4: Fry

Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Fry the bread rolls until they turn golden brown and crispy on all sides. Remove and place them on paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Serving Suggestions

Serve hot with:

Green chutney

Tomato ketchup

Tamarind chutney

Masala chai

Ginger tea

Mint yogurt dip

Tips for Perfect Bread Rolls

Use slightly stale bread for better shaping.

Do not soak the bread for too long.

Cool the potato mixture before stuffing.

Fry on medium heat for even cooking.

You can air-fry at 180°C for 12–15 minutes with a light oil brushing.

Add grated cheese for a cheesy version.

Mix peas, corn, carrots, or paneer into the filling for extra nutrition.

Nutritional Benefits

Although Bread Rolls are an indulgent snack, the potato filling provides carbohydrates for energy, while coriander, ginger, and spices contribute antioxidants and digestive benefits. Baking or air-frying can significantly reduce the oil content, making them a healthier alternative.

Conclusion

Bread Rolls are a timeless Indian snack loved by both children and adults. Their crispy exterior and spicy potato filling make them perfect for monsoon evenings, parties, family get-togethers, or festive celebrations. Whether deep-fried or air-fried, these homemade Bread Rolls are sure to become a favorite at your dining table. Enjoy them fresh and hot with your favorite chutney and a steaming cup of tea.
