Today's irregular lifestyle appears to be exacerbating physical and mental health issues among the aging population. As one grows older, recurring constipation, digestive disorders, and persistent back pain become common ailments, negatively impacting overall health. In this context, the Ministry of AYUSH has recommended incorporating *Dhanurasana*—also known as the Bow Pose—into one's daily routine.
With just a few days remaining until World Yoga Day 2026 (June 21), the Government of India's Ministry of AYUSH is actively encouraging citizens to stay healthy. By advising the integration of yoga into daily life, the Ministry is continuously educating the public about various yoga postures to inspire a healthier lifestyle.
According to the Ministry, recurring constipation, digestive issues, and chronic back pain have become increasingly common with age—conditions that severely compromise comfort, mobility, and overall well-being. In this scenario, the practice of *Dhanurasana* offers a means to bid farewell to many of these ailments once and for all.
*Dhanurasana* effectively stretches the abdominal region, stimulates the digestive organs, strengthens the back muscles, and enhances the body's flexibility. Practicing *Dhanurasana* activates the abdominal muscles, thereby providing relief from constipation and improving digestive function. Furthermore, it strengthens the spine and proves highly effective in alleviating back pain. Daily practice of this pose increases the flexibility of muscles and joints, ensuring that the body remains active and agile even as one ages.
To practice *Dhanurasana*, begin by lying down on your stomach. Bend both knees, bring your heels back toward your buttocks, and grasp your ankles with your hands. While inhaling, lift your chest and thighs off the ground so that your body assumes the shape of a bow. Hold this position for a few seconds, then slowly return to the starting position. Beginners should exercise caution; it is advisable to commence this practice under the supervision of a qualified yoga expert.
