With World Yoga Day just around the corner, the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, is actively promoting physical and mental well-being through yoga. The Ministry is sharing information about various *asanas* (postures) and their associated benefits, specifically highlighting those effective in overcoming depression.

Yoga experts state that yoga does more than just keep the body healthy; it is highly effective in calming the mind, reducing stress, and fostering emotional balance. In today's fast-paced life, characterized by work pressure and personal challenges, depression has become a common issue. Consequently, regular yoga practice has become essential.

The Ministry of AYUSH promotes the message "Yoga-yukt, Rog-mukt" (Yoga-enabled, Disease-free). The Ministry urges citizens to practice these *asanas* every morning. One can start with a 15-20 minute session and gradually increase the duration. Yoga not only aids in fighting depression but also enhances overall health.

According to the Ministry of AYUSH, regular yoga practice reduces stress-inducing hormones, stabilizes the mind, and helps alleviate mental health issues like depression. Yoga postures and breathing techniques (*pranayama*) recommended for combating depression include Meditation, Bhramari Pranayama, Tadasana, Bhujangasana, and Anulom-Vilom.

Meditation: Practicing meditation for 10-15 minutes daily reduces mental clutter and fosters inner peace.

Pawanmuktasana: This *asana* alleviates both abdominal issues and mental restlessness, helping to release negative energy accumulated in the body.

Bhramari Pranayama: This breathing technique calms the brain. Producing a humming sound like a bumblebee while breathing helps reduce stress and anxiety.

Tadasana: This standing posture energizes both the body and the mind, while also helping to improve posture and boost self-confidence. Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose): This pose, resembling a snake, strengthens the spine and helps alleviate chest tightness. It reduces negative emotions associated with depression.

Anulom-Vilom Pranayama: Involving inhalation through one nostril and exhalation through the other, this breathing exercise balances both hemispheres of the brain and calms the mind.
