International Yoga Day is celebrated annually on June 21st. In the lead-up to this day, the Ministry of Ayush has been actively working to raise awareness about yoga. As part of this initiative, the Ministry shared a post on the social media platform 'X' on Friday, highlighting the importance of yoga and the benefits of *Tadasana* (Mountain Pose).
In its post, the Ministry of Ayush stated, "Yoga is not about performing difficult *asanas* (postures); it is about simple, effortless movements that keep our bodies flexible. As we age, these yoga postures should become a part of our daily lives. *Tadasana*, or the Mountain Pose, is one of the most essential foundational yoga postures. It provides a gentle stretch to the entire body and improves posture."
According to the Ministry of Ayush, *Tadasana* offers a gentle stretch to the whole body and helps improve posture. It is considered one of the most important foundational yoga poses.
A video shared by the Ministry alongside the post also demonstrated the correct method for performing *Tadasana*. The video instructed viewers to stand straight and raise both arms upwards. It then advised stretching the entire body upwards and maintaining that position for a while while breathing normally.
Earlier, on Thursday, the Ministry stated that regular yoga practice could prove helpful in providing relief from common issues like lower back pain. A large number of people are grappling with back and lower back pain due to hectic lifestyles, sedentary work habits, and a lack of physical activity. The Ministry of Ayush has recommended yoga as a natural and effective remedy for such individuals. According to the Ministry, by adopting the mantra "Stay Yoga-enabled, Stay Disease-free," people can improve their health and prevent various health issues.
The Ministry of Ayush had also suggested specific yoga postures and *Pranayama* (breathing exercises) to help alleviate back and lower back pain. These include Ardha Chakrasana, Setu Bandhasana, Kati Chakrasana, Vakrasana, Bhujangasana, and Surya Bhedan Pranayama. Practicing these exercises regularly strengthens the back muscles and improves spinal flexibility.
