Summer is now in full swing. Heatwaves are sweeping through, leaving both body and mind exhausted by the end of the day. In such conditions, traditional and healthy *Khus* (vetiver) syrup is becoming the preferred choice for many over commercial cold drinks. It is not merely a chilled beverage but a natural remedy that soothes both body and mind.

*Khus* syrup is considered a quintessential summer cooler. Its captivating aroma, mild sweetness, and cooling sensation provide instant refreshment. It has been a household favorite across the country—and especially in North India—for centuries. When the sun is blazing outside, a glass of *Khus* syrup instantly alleviates the day's fatigue, the burning sensation of heat, and general discomfort.

*Khus* roots are known for their natural cooling properties; soaking them in water imparts a cooling effect to the liquid. It helps dissipate internal body heat, combats weakness caused by excessive sweating, and calms the mind. Ayurveda also recognizes *Khus* for its ability to protect against heat and improve digestion. It is safe for everyone, from children to the elderly, with no side effects.

Preparing *Khus* syrup is simple. Thoroughly clean the *Khus* roots and soak them in water for two to three hours. Then, strain the water and mix in sugar or jaggery, lemon juice, and a touch of cardamom to create the syrup. You can also add mint or fennel seeds if desired. Chilling it in the refrigerator offers a doubly refreshing experience during the summer heat. Homemade syrup is far more delicious and beneficial than the ready-made versions available in the market.

According to experts, consuming *Khus* syrup daily during summer helps maintain body temperature, prevents dehydration, and quickly relieves fatigue. It not only quenches thirst but also offers a truly delightful taste.
