Caramel Sundae Recipe

Preparation Time: 10 minutes

Cooking Time: 10 minutes

Serves: 2

Ingredients

For the caramel sauce:

½ cup sugar

2 tbsp butter

¼ cup fresh cream

1 pinch salt

½ tsp vanilla essence

For the sundae:

4 scoops vanilla ice cream

2 tbsp chopped almonds or walnuts

2 tbsp chocolate chips

2 tbsp whipped cream

2 cherries

Extra caramel sauce for drizzling

Method

Prepare the caramel sauce:

Add sugar to a heavy-bottomed pan and heat it on low to medium flame. Allow the sugar to melt gradually until it turns golden brown. Avoid stirring too much while the sugar melts.

Add butter:

Once the sugar reaches a golden caramel colour, carefully add butter and mix until combined.

Add cream:

Slowly pour in the fresh cream while stirring continuously. Be careful because the mixture can bubble vigorously. Cook for another 1–2 minutes until smooth.

Add flavour:

Turn off the heat and mix in salt and vanilla essence. Let the caramel sauce cool slightly.

Assemble the sundae:

Place two scoops of vanilla ice cream in each serving glass or bowl. Drizzle generously with caramel sauce.

Add toppings:

Sprinkle chopped nuts and chocolate chips over the ice cream. Top with whipped cream and a cherry.

Serve immediately:

Finish with another drizzle of caramel sauce and serve the sundae chilled.

Tips for a Perfect Caramel Sundae

Use good-quality vanilla ice cream for a richer flavour.

Keep the caramel sauce slightly warm while serving for a delicious hot-and-cold combination.

Do not overcook the sugar, as burnt caramel can taste bitter.

You can add banana slices, brownie pieces, cookies or caramel popcorn for extra texture.

Store leftover caramel sauce in a clean airtight container in the refrigerator and gently warm it before using.

Conclusion

A Caramel Sundae is an easy homemade dessert that can turn ordinary vanilla ice cream into an indulgent treat. With buttery caramel, crunchy nuts, chocolate and whipped cream, it is perfect for parties, family gatherings or a simple sweet craving.
