In today's modern lifestyle—where digestive issues and a sluggish metabolism have become commonplace—Mayurasana is considered highly beneficial for physical health. This asana aids in eliminating toxins present within the body.
The term *Mayurasana* is derived from two Sanskrit words: *Mayur*, meaning "peacock," and *Asana*, meaning "posture." By activating the Navel Chakra (Manipura Chakra), it instills a sense of self-confidence and channels positive energy within the individual.
According to the Ministry of AYUSH, Mayurasana (the Peacock Pose) is an advanced balancing yoga posture in which the entire weight of the body rests upon the palms. It is considered immensely beneficial for stimulating abdominal organs, enhancing digestive power, and strengthening muscles. In this asana, the body's weight is primarily borne by the palms and shoulders, thereby strengthening the muscles of the wrists, shoulders, legs, and the entire body.
Practicing Mayurasana daily improves physical balance, enhances concentration, and reinforces mental stability. This asana is also believed to aid in detoxifying the body; it facilitates the elimination of toxins and improves blood circulation. Furthermore, it is considered beneficial for lung health.
To perform this asana, begin by sitting in *Vajrasana* (Thunderbolt Pose). Next, place both palms flat on the ground with your fingers pointing backward. Bend your elbows slightly and position them close to your abdomen. Then, gradually shift your body's weight onto your palms while extending your legs straight out behind you. Keep your head lifted forward and strive to maintain the balance of your entire body. Initially, hold this pose for a few seconds, then gradually increase the duration. However, as this asana can be somewhat challenging for beginners, it is advisable to practice it under the supervision of a qualified yoga expert.
Pregnant women, as well as individuals suffering from high blood pressure, hernia, or ulcers, should refrain from practicing this asana.
