Nurses are a pivotal part of the healthcare system. They are ‘Unsung Heroes’, who are responsible for patient care. Nurses carry on their duties without praise or spotlight. To acknowledge the selfless work done by the nurses, and to commemorate International Nurses Day, Wockhardt Hospitals has taken a huge step by conducting week-long fun-filled activities across centers in Mira Road, Mumbai Central, Rajkot, and Nagpur. The theme attributed to this year’s International Nurses Day is - Our Nurses, Our Future which aims to value, protect and respect the nurses. The motto is also to solve global health challenges and improve global health for everyone.
Nurses play a critical role in managing and caring for patients. They take care of the patient’s physical needs, treat health various conditions and prevent illnesses. They are highly trained members of the medical team and ensure patient safety. They provide emotional support to the patients and their families. Nurses are the backbone of our healthcare system. They are known as patient advocates and are well aware of the patient’s wants and needs. To recognize the work done by the nurses, celebrations were organized for a week. The program consisted of the Wockhardt anthem and the nursing pledge followed by the felicitation of nursing heads. The senior nurses who completed 15 years shared their experience with teary eyes and ensure to give some valuable tips to the new enthusiastic nurses. Many innovative activities such as taking selfies, poster drawing and singing competitions, talent exhibitions, and dances were organized wherein the nurses were able to de-stress and relax. To boost the morale of the nurses and make them feel wanted, gold coin distribution was done for those who completed 5, 10, and 15 years at their individual unit by the respective Chief of the Hospital. The celebrations were concluded by a cake-cutting session. This event has spread happiness and smiles on all the participants' faces.
Ms. Zahabiya Khorakiwala, MD, Wockhardt Hospitals, said, “Nurses tend to sacrifice their lives to serve others selflessly. They have always been at the forefront of any healthcare crisis and stand strong. They are the heart of our healthcare system. They play a vital role in a patient’s life. International Nurses Day is celebrated to honor nurses who work round-the-clock for the betterment of the patients. We thank and are proud of each and every nurse for the commitment, love, care, and support offered by them. Our nurses have made a significant contribution to the hospital and helped it reach where it is today. We hope to receive continued support and love for the nurses and promise to take utmost care of them in their journey.”
Dr Clive Fernandes, Group Clinical Director & Group Chief Operating Officer Wockhardt Hospitals, said, “At Wockhardt Hospitals we have always recognised the value our nurses bring while delivering patient care. They epitomise the saying "Save one life, you are a hero, save hundred lives, you are a nurse. Nurses are the foundation of the healthcare system, and no hospital can be complete without the tender loving care and empathy that nurses are known to provide. Even during the pandemic nurses led the way caring selflessly for patients going without meals and even water for an entire shift as initially there was a scarcity of PPE, yes nurses showed and led the way and all other health care professionals followed. The idea behind this event was to recognise and commend our nurses for all that they do for our patients. We received a positive response from all the nurses for this event. We look forward to the same kind of enthusiasm even next year.”
“Like every year, we took out time from our busy lives and participated in the activities conducted by the hospital this year. We are touched by the hospital’s gesture of making us feel important and giving us respect and love. Our sole motto is to help the patient recover faster and improve his/her quality of life. We are elated and thank everyone for coming together and busting stress by participating in the event,” concluded Ms Elizabeth Joseph, Nursing head, Wockhardt Hospitals.
