World Yoga Day 2026 is now just eight days away. The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, has chosen "Yoga for Healthy Aging" as the theme for this year's Yoga Day. The Ministry emphasizes that a healthy mind and body form the foundation for a better quality of life at any age. In line with this, the Ministry has highlighted the "Knee Movement" yoga practice, which is highly beneficial for strengthening the knees and hips.

Knee pain, hip stiffness, and lower body weakness have become common issues associated with aging. Sedentary lifestyles—involving long periods of sitting—have further exacerbated these problems. According to the Ministry of AYUSH, "Knee Movement" (Samasthiti) is a simple yoga exercise that strengthens the knee and hip joints. It improves balance and makes daily activities—such as walking, sitting, standing, and climbing stairs—easier.

Practicing "Knee Movement" enhances joint flexibility, activates muscles, and maintains natural joint lubrication. Regular practice helps reduce knee pain, alleviate stiffness, and lower the risk of injury. This exercise is particularly beneficial for individuals with low physical activity levels or those whose work requires prolonged sitting.

Experts state that knee pain and instability are often signs of joint weakness or underuse. Simple exercises like "Knee Movement" offer a natural solution to these issues. This exercise can be easily performed at home without any equipment. When done correctly, it gradually improves joint mobility and strengthens the body.

Begin this practice gently. If you experience severe pain, be sure to consult a yoga expert. This exercise, which requires no equipment and can be easily done at home, improves body posture and enhances balance.
