In today's hectic lifestyle, where physical ailments like stress, constipation, and back pain have become commonplace, *Yogamudrasana* acts like a restorative elixir. Regular practice of this *asana* helps maintain balance in both the body and the mind.
This *yoga mudra* is formed by combining two words: 'Yoga' (meaning 'to unite' or 'connect') and 'Mudra' (meaning 'symbol' or 'gesture'). In English, it is known as the 'Psychic Union Pose,' signifying the union of the mind. Essentially, *Yogamudrasana* is a yoga posture that establishes harmony by bridging the gap between the body and the mind.
While performing this *asana*, the body enters a state of meditation, surrender, and inner peace.
The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, has issued guidelines regarding this *asana*, noting that it helps activate abdominal organs, improve digestion, and calm the mind. Its practice strengthens the pelvic muscles and can help alleviate reproductive health issues in women.
Long-term practice of this *asana* enhances stability and concentration in both body and mind. Additionally, it activates and stimulates the *Manipura Chakra* (the third energy center among the seven main chakras of the human body, associated with self-confidence, digestion, and the fire element), thereby regulating *pranic* energy within the body.
Performing this *asana* is quite simple: the practitioner begins by sitting in *Padmasana* (Lotus Pose). Next, take your hands behind your back and clasp your wrists or hold your big toes. While taking deep breaths, slowly bend forward. Try to touch your forehead to the ground and allow your body to relax completely. Hold the position for a few seconds while breathing normally, then return to the starting position while inhaling.
It is advisable to seek guidance from an expert when first attempting this *asana*. With a few days of practice, performing this pose becomes quite easy. Almost the entire body, including the spine and legs, is engaged in this asana; therefore, it is beneficial for various parts of the body from a health perspective.
