As we age, our bodies gradually weaken. These physical issues can lead to serious illnesses. However, yoga and a healthy diet can help improve this. One such challenging and powerful asana is Pincha Mayurasana, also known as the 'Feathered Peacock Pose'.
In this asana, the body is balanced upside down, not on the head, but on the elbows and forearms (the part from the fingers to the wrist). It may look easy, but practicing it requires balance, strength, and patience. Pincha Mayurasana is beneficial for both the body and the mind. It not only strengthens the arms, shoulders, and core but also helps boost self-confidence by overcoming fear.
The Ministry of AYUSH has recognized Pincha Mayurasana as a balancing and inversion asana. According to it, the entire weight of the body rests on the elbows and arms while performing Pincha Mayurasana.
This asana affects the bones of the waist, back, and legs. When the hips are lifted while performing this asana, blood circulation in the body's muscles increases, and nutrients reach the bones faster. This asana activates the body and strengthens the lower back.
Regular practice of this asana improves the body's range of motion, helping the practitioner with advanced arm balances.
To perform this asana, kneel on the ground and place your elbows and forearms parallel to each other. Straighten your legs and lift your hips<extra_id_1>, as you would in Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward-Facing Dog Pose). Using the strength of your core and legs, slowly lift your legs into the air<extra_id_1>. Keep your head off the ground and straighten your legs towards the sky.
Do not perform this asana if you have high blood pressure or an injury to your shoulders or neck. Use the wall for support to maintain your balance initially.
