Sitting in an office all day can lead to stomach-related issues. Prolonged sitting slows down the digestive system and causes abdominal fat to accumulate. In such a scenario, *Paschimottanasana* is considered one of the simplest and most effective yoga poses.

The word '*Paschima*' refers to the back of the body, and '*Uttana*' means an intense stretch. When performing this pose, the body bends forward, exerting gentle pressure on the abdominal organs. This improves digestion, reduces belly fat, and alleviates constipation. Additionally, it enhances spinal flexibility and relieves the fatigue accumulated throughout the day.

According to an Instagram post by the Ministry of AYUSH, *Paschimottanasana* strengthens abdominal muscles and reduces the risk of sciatica. It also helps in addressing constipation, obesity, indigestion, and skin ailments.

Practicing this pose daily increases body flexibility, improves digestion, and reduces stress. During the practice, the practitioner bends towards their legs, creating a comprehensive stretch that extends from the spine down to the leg muscles.

In yogic texts, this pose is hailed as a key to longevity and excellent health. Practicing it improves blood circulation, reduces obesity, and calms the mind. It is a yoga pose suitable for practitioners of all ages.

It is important to understand the correct technique before performing *Paschimottanasana*. Avoid putting excessive strain on your body initially. To perform this pose, start by sitting on the ground with both legs stretched out straight. Then, take a deep breath and slowly bend forward. Try to touch your big toes with your hands and bring your head close to your knees. Hold this position for a few seconds, then slowly exhale and return to the starting position. In its post, the Ministry advised individuals suffering from stomach ulcers against performing this asana and also recommended consulting an expert.
