Sitting at a desk for long periods in the office can lead to various physical and mental issues. In such a scenario, maintaining a regular routine—including a balanced diet and yoga—helps alleviate these problems. Among yoga postures, *Padahastasana* is considered excellent; practicing it gradually brings relief to the body.
*Padahastasana* is a yoga posture formed by combining three words: *Pada* (foot), *Hasta* (hand), and *Asana* (posture). Since the feet are held by the hands in this pose, it is known as *Padahastasana* or *Hasta Padasana*.
In today's lifestyle, where we often spend most of our time hunched over mobile phones or computers, this posture provides relief to the spine and boosts energy flow throughout the body.
The Union Ministry of AYUSH has offered recommendations regarding this posture. Issues such as stress, stiffness, poor digestion, and low energy levels can accumulate in the body over time. *Padahastasana* is an effective remedy for these problems; regular practice enhances body flexibility, strengthens the digestive system, calms the mind, and relieves physical tension through a deep forward stretch.
Performing this posture increases blood flow towards the head, benefiting the brain and eyes. Additionally, it calms the mind and helps reduce stress.
To perform this posture, start by standing with your feet together. Exhale and bend forward from the waist, attempting to place your hands on the ground near your feet. Beginners may bend their knees slightly. Hold the position for a few seconds and then slowly return to the starting position. This posture can be practiced 3 to 5 times daily. Beginners should perform this asana only under the guidance of an expert and should always remain mindful of their physical limits while practicing yoga. Forcing the body or overstretching can lead to injury. Additionally, individuals with serious medical conditions, those who have recently undergone surgery, and pregnant women must consult a yoga expert before attempting this pose.
