World Yoga Day (June 21) is just around the corner. In the run-up to the event, the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, has specifically highlighted *Nadi Shodhana Pranayama*. This breathing technique is considered a simple yet highly effective method for achieving mental peace, concentration, and physical balance.

According to the Ministry, regular practice not only alleviates mental issues but also provides relief from *Kapha*-related disorders. *Nadi Shodhana Pranayama* is also known as alternate-nostril breathing. It is one of the most fundamental and safest yoga practices. It involves inhaling through one nostril and exhaling through the other. The technique is so simple that even beginners can perform it with ease.

This *Pranayama* is being promoted under the Ministry of AYUSH’s initiative, "Yoga for Healthy Aging." Yoga experts note that *Nadi Shodhana* proves extremely useful in combating the stress, anxiety, and mental instability associated with modern lifestyles. Regular practice balances both hemispheres of the brain, thereby enhancing deep concentration.

Its key benefits include calming and stabilizing the mind and significantly reducing stress and anxiety levels. Practicing it improves concentration and memory while offering relief from *Kapha* disorders such as colds, coughs, and mucus-related issues. It also enhances the flow of internal energy.

Experts suggest that a 10–15 minute practice session on an empty stomach in the morning is highly beneficial. The duration can be gradually increased to 20–30 minutes. This *Pranayama* is particularly useful for individuals engaged in office work, academics, or high-pressure daily routines.

Practicing it correctly under the guidance of yoga gurus yields the best results.
