Yoga is an ancient and effective means of maintaining the balance of our body, mind, and soul. Among the various yoga postures (asanas), 'Sarvangasana' holds special significance. Regular practice of this asana not only improves physical health but also enhances mental peace and concentration.

'Sarvangasana' is derived from two words: 'Sarva' (meaning 'all') and 'Anga' (meaning 'body parts'). In this pose, the body's weight is lifted upwards, supported by the shoulders and neck; this improves blood circulation and helps balance various bodily functions.

According to the Ministry of AYUSH, Sarvangasana (Shoulder Stand Pose) is a comprehensive yoga posture that aids in improving body balance, flexibility, and the functioning of internal organs. It is often referred to as the 'Queen of Asanas.' Additionally, this pose helps activate and balance the *Vishuddhi Chakra* (throat chakra). Its practice strengthens the immune system and instills a sense of peace and stability in the mind.

This asana is considered beneficial for balancing the functions of the glands in the neck region and their associated organs. Since the body is inverted (positioned from bottom to top) during Sarvangasana, blood circulation improves, enabling body cells to function more actively.

Regular practice enhances the process of venous return (the flow of blood back to the heart). While performing this asana, the entire body weight is balanced on the shoulders and elbows. However, it is essential to learn the correct technique initially. Practicing under expert supervision minimizes the risk of injury. Incorporate this into your routine with the guidance of a yoga expert, especially if you have issues related to the neck, back, or high blood pressure.

Do not practice this asana if you suffer from high blood pressure, cervical issues (neck pain), or hyperthyroidism.
